Note: Which Mobile Is “Mobile”?
Up until now, marketers have still been largely thinking of the “mobile” category as both smartphone and tablet. But now that mobile is taking over desktop/laptop use, and that newer devices such as Microsoft’s Windows Surface and competing Samsung products allow both tablet and laptop functionality, we will have to expand our thinking, especially because smartphones represent “in-transit” or “on-the-go” use for consumers today, and tablets have more use for reading e-books and vacation substitution for the full laptop. Even Google Analytics separates “mobile (smartphone)” device data from “tablet”. The difference in use and consumer behavior should indicate a difference in marketing approach, particularly because web browser “sniffers” can detect the technology behind the user’s platform. Use your mobile device data, research, and industry mobile/social channels to drive your digital marketing strategies.
One of the progressions over time in this “mobile revolution” has been device independence. The combination of technologies previously discussed, such as universal login, cloud software, bandwidth access, and technology and mobile devices and use have given us device independence. We no longer need our own computer or even our own software to do what we want to do online and with technologies. These factors should continue to contribute to our device independence. And technologies such as thinner, smaller smartphones and Google Glass continue to minimize the size of the device itself—pushing us to make more of ourselves and our wishes, commands, our voice, our physical locations, and even our thoughts to become more important than the technological device. One of the progressions over time in this “mobile revolution” has been device independence. The Future of WordPress

WordPress itself is growing in use, as we’ve discussed in this book; approximately 23% of new websites are the WordPress platform. Yet the WordPress back-end interface has always been very poor and not at all WYSIWIG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get). I love WordPress, but I am the first to admit it has been saddled with poor usability by its editor. After all these years of use, I still have to pause sometimes to remember where I find that one thingy to do that one thing on the website thing (that’s several thingies removed). In fact, over time, WordPress has offered more alternate ways to more easily edit portions of your WordPress site than the traditional WordPress back-end content display allows . Original WordPress theme designers have also offered customized login back-end dashboard user interface alternatives for their own themes to compensate for the “messy” UI of the traditional WordPress dashboard.  Another example, a plug-in called MP6, has been created to cure this very challenge with its own redesigned dashboard.) If you’re seeking front-end WYSIWYG options, there is TinyMCE plug-in. Another WYSIWYG WordPress plug-in is Barley. And there is Visual Composer Page Builder for WYSIWYG pages. Check ’em out.
